1982-P Kennedy Half Dollar No "FG"

#1 Unread post by claudewill1 »

Hi,
I made this finding earlier; according to CoinWeek, if you cannot see any part of an FG with x5 magnification, it's a No FG, I only have an x10, and I still didn't see it. I didn't expect to find anything when I found the coin. Recently, I went through a box of half dollars I got from a bank, and I didn't find any silver. However, I did pull aside all of the years I know there are CherryPickers varieties for and put them in a box to search through later.

Thanks.

Yes, this is a No FG 1982 half dollar.:happy-cheerleaderkid:

The 1 in your coin's date has no base to it. All legit No FGs have this error as well, whereas the normal coin's have a 1 with a base on it.
I made this finding earlier; according to CoinWeek, if you cannot see any part of an FG with x5 magnification, it's a No FG, I only have an x10, and I still didn't see it.
While this is also the rule PCGS has on their website for assigning a No FG on a slab, they assign many coins incorrectly as No FG.They make this newbie level mistake often as the essay in my signature shows (without a doubt) using PCGS website picures and data (all linked).

In fact all of the grading companies have a bad record for making this same assignment. Unfortunately, as also shown in the essay, these wrongly labeled coins have cost collectors thousands of dollars.

Check out the essay in my signature to also see a graphic comparison of the 1s on the 1982 No FG and normal halves as well. PCGS etc. seem to be clueless on this point.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
