:o Proper Titles Are Important, so I had to fix yours for you to include the denomination! :D

Titles are indexed on the forum so others can find/research when they have a similar coin.

Hello Daniel,

Looking through a penny box from BofA found this penny. I cleaned it with MS70 and a cotton q tip.
Its missing quite a few words, the number 7, and all of TRUST, although you could make some of it. It also has some weird thing going on in the face cheekbone.
I think it follows your description of grease on the die and nothing else, very likely worthless, but I would like your expert opinion.
No rush and thank you much in advance.
Jose.

A struck through grease filled die (or just "filled die") error. "Battle wounds" on his face (Hits from other coins) .

Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don’t learn the coin hobby backwards.
:)
Most odd looking things on coins are just post mint damage. So looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage or useless machine doubling, die deterioration, etc.

Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like.

A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins. :)

I have to say thank you! There is nothing better than to talk to experts. Your experience is invaluable. It's clear to me what made this coin what it currently is.
The "Battle wounds" comment got me rolling :) And yes Earle42, you are right, but asking you guys still the best.
Thanks Paul!
I'm all set with this post.
Again, thank you all so much! Your education is greatly appreciated.
Good times.

I agree 100% with PennyQuestion. I love the conversation about these things on here. Sure, most of this stuff can be figured out by going to the sites you guys are always mentioning, and yes, I do spend my fair share of time there, but the expert opinions and explanations here are priceless.
