Hello,
I have an 1817 1 cent that I believe it was struck on a defective planchette.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the community.
May I ask why do you think this coin is struck on a defective planchet please?

That is what I was told, but that is why I am asking the question as that does not seem correct. On the the other hand I have no idea why the coin looks the way it does!

My opinion is that it's just damage from over 205 years of "wear and tear". ;)

The porous surface here, as well as the cleanliness…
leads me to a conclusion that it has been subjected to some type of caustic substance.

My first thoughts from the pitting on the surface is that it was a very corroded cent (possibly found underground by a metal detectorist, and then as Paul said, someone put it into acid to make it look brighter in appearance.

It's a post mint corroded and not an error or flawed planchet.
