New Commemorative £2 coin

#1 Unread post by Worldwide C »

Recently the Royal Mint released a NIFC £2 coin to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the bimetallic £2 coin.

I wonder if any £2 coins will be struck for circulation featuring Charles III next year because there hasn’t been any £2 coins struck for circulation since 2016 (2017 onwards are only found in sets or BUNC packs). This isn’t the first time there has been a £2 coin, from the early 1800s till 1937 there were a few £2 gold coins minted for circulation and from 1986-1996 there were Brass £2 coins minted for commemorative events (since 1997 the brass types have occasionally been found in circulation because they have the same diameter as the newer ones).

I do think the Royal Mint should update the security hologram because since the withdrawal of the Round pound coins in 2017 (due to counterfeits) there is a decent amount of fake £2 coins in circulation, while some are terrible quality and you can see that from a mile away others look so close to the original the only way you can tell it’s fake is by testing its composition.

Anyway the US mint should take notes from other countries and finally introduce a new bimetallic coin that is popular with the public.
