I have a Jefferson nickel folder that I started about three years ago that's made up entirely of coins found doing roll searches. It's complete through 1961 except for a 1939 D and 1950 D. Last week I went to my favorite bank and got a box and this weekend I went to work. The first two thirds of the box was nothing special but all of a sudden the remaining rolls started producing only older nickels. The last 11 rolls didn't have a coin in them that was newer than 1960 so apparently I found someone's coin collection dump. Imagine my surprise when this 50 D fell out of a roll and almost rolled off of my table. Not only is it a key date but the condition left me almost speechless. Unfortunately I don't believe that it's worthy to get a "full steps" grade but it sure is close! I think I'll be sending it off anyway to get it graded and put into a holder. It makes me wonder what the other coin looked like that banished this 50 D to a roll. It must have been one sweet looking nickel. Regardless, if it had been me I would have kept this pretty one too.
A 39 D is all I need to get now. Hopefully this folder will be finished in 2023.
(Sorry in advance about the picture quality.)
Nickel roll hunt - Found a small collection dump - 50 D!

Re: Nickel roll hunt - Found a small collection dump - 50 D!
The box of nickels had a sister! I went back to the bank and got another box and it had 14 rolls of pre 1960 nickels. Unfortunately the 50 D didn't have a mate and there was no 39 D but there was a nice 49 S that upgraded what I already had in my album. There were also two complete rolls in the box that were just 2019 which I thought was odd.

Congratulations!
One of my dreams was to find one of these in circulation. Never did!
