To C.A.C., or not to C.A.C. this coin?

#1 Unread post by CertifiedG »

I have thought about sending some of my PCGS slabbed coins into C.A.C. most specifically my 1875-S quarter eagle. I think it looks great for a XF45 (when compared to the available AU slabbed examples). Would you send this in for the green bean, or have C.A.C. reslab it, or just keep it as is? 🤔

It depends on what you enjoy in the hobby. If you have fun with slabs and stickers, that is the way you enjoy the hobby.

But the facts behind the current grading systems and stickers make me say don't waste the money if its not just for aesthetics or selling for higher profits.

The facts are a coin cracked out and resubmitted to the same grading company is never guaranteed the same grade again b/c the companies use absolutely no verifiable scientific standard. Only opinion is used and, as the resubmission game proves, grades are variables and not a solid constant like we would wish them to be.

CAC does the same thing - nothing verifiable is used...they just use their own opinion.

Hypothetical, but very possible scenario:
You send a PCGS slabbed MS64 Morgan to CAC. They Green Bean it.

Later someone buys the coin from you, cracks it out, and resubmits it thinking (right or wrong) they can get a higher grade. But this time the coin is graded an MS63 or maybe a higher grade at MS65.

So what was the CAC all about then? Well...it cost money, and it looks nice!

And since most people do not understand what the systems are all about will pay more for a "beaned" slab (normally unaware there is nothing verifiable and absolute to the grade or the slab)!

It is not hard to find these kind of things.

Can't answer that, you should ask the CAC dealer since that is the only way you can send it to CAC and they can see your coin in hand.

What does "beaned" slabbed mean? Is that when the coin is incased in plastic?

Thx.

The small green sticker they put on the slab is referred to as a "Bean"
