1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. 1960 Nickel with strange hue
This probably isn't anything but I found this among my Dad's coins and it is in really excellent shape and it has a fantastic hue. I doubt its worth more than a nickel but it is a beautiful coin.
Is this anything special? Like I said, new to this and going through my Dad's stuff.- SensibleSal66

Nice Nickel! What you are seeing is called "Toning". Value: A whopping 5 Cents.

Agree, defiantly a survivor in great condition. Must have been parked in someones coin collection hoard or pocket change hoard.

Re: 1960 Nickel with strange hue
two questions: how do I "Thank" people? Next question: what magnification would the grading companies use when evaluating coins? My photos don't do the coin justice. it is exceptionally nice and the toning is quite nice. When I magnify the back of this coin, I can see the steps. But I think I am at 30x and the steps are clear on both sides but the middle is worn. Thanks to all, I really want to know how to officially thank folks.

I agree, 10x is fine for coin inspection though a lot of people now are using Digital Microscopes to do their coin hunting and I personally think this slows one down by revealing
way too many anomalies that are insignificant when it come to the important things one needs to " Focus" on...no Pun intended.
If one is well informed and has educated ones self by reading.reading.....reading about what is a true Error/Variety and has a good understanding on the creation process of working Dies
then working with a powerful Microscope is quite nice to get up close and personal with your coins.
As a added suggestion please go here and subscribe to Daniels YouTube channel and live through his videos for a time, you will get a lot of great Info here.
