1914-D Lincoln Cent: How to tell if this is genuine?

#1 Unread post by mh967 »

I’ve recently purchased this and I’d like to get a few other opinions if it is actually genuine. It weighs 3.17g and is 19.04mm dia x 1.51mm thk. I’ve compared it with pics from PCGS website and everything seem to look right. Anything look out of the ordinary before I send this in for grading?

Looks good to me, anyways. Let's just see what the others have to say. The weight is within tolerance. :D

I am no expert on these, but it looks a little funky to me around the obverse rim.

Paul,

In the picture you posted, the D's are really different. Is that the die's or wear and tear?

Thanks.

The D doesn't look correct and the coin is artificially toned, I would stay away.

Keep in mind the Mintmark's were hand punched, and will vary in location

Well, if there a VDB on the obverse that is on the lower part of Lincoln? All genuine 1914-D Wheat Pennies don't have it as it was not added into the obverse dies until 1918.
