1. Post a front and back image of your coin with a specific question about what you’re seeing or asking about and one coin per topic.
2. Please remove coin from the holder unless it’s US or an official mint case or unless it is graded by a grading service.
3. Images should be taken by a camera or cell phone camera, we ask that members don’t use images through a microscope screen.
4. Always start your own topic, please don’t ask about your coin or post your coin in someone else’s coin topic.
5. Do not send private messages about your coin unless an Admin ask you too and the same for sending emails through the board.
6. No spam. Do not post any links to your coin or other non-coin websites.
7. Always be respectful even if something makes you upset or you don’t agree with a member. You can always get a second opinion elsewhere. If you have an issue then politely ask an admin in an PM. PM’s are for issues, technical and personal, but not for coin questions (refer to number 5 on this list). Photos, Scopes, and Value
Here, I have a 1972S Eisenhower Dollar that was issued in the brown box.
But, I want to sell it on eBay. How do I fix this? Break it out and dip? Or, just take a better photograph? Well, I'm pretty good with photos, so I'll fix it. That's the photo I'll put on eBay. That should get a few more dollars.
Oh wait... this year is supposed to have some DDOs, so let's throw it under the scope... Well, it's a DDO-002 (FS-101)!
See those splits on the corners? I'm going to rake in the dough on this rare coin!!
Let's get real people.
In the end, the buyer can only see the first photo when held in hand. THAT sets the price.
The doubling adds no value. It is far too minor.
The photo under special lighting nicely shows the intact surfaces, but is falsely representing the coin.
Breaking the coin out of the holder would have made it an impaired proof. (Lowering the value.)
Getting this coin graded would have cost twenty times its value.
As you can see the coin has the infamous milky surface that made it so appealing. Yep, that's on the coin, not the holder. But, I want to sell it on eBay. How do I fix this? Break it out and dip? Not trying to sell.
Trying to show how coins are hyped. (Read the red at the end.)

Yes. Different lighting, Macro lens so I can focus beneath the plastic.

Re: Photos, Scopes, and Value
We talked about this before (about two weeks ago), on photographing coins.
So you have inspired me; thank you, mhonzell.
I picked up a Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 lens for my old Canon 7D.
I bought on eBay a Speedlite 430EX II flash.
I also downloaded the PhotoScape App you recommended.
I'm just about ready to Rumble...

Re: Photos, Scopes, and Value
So, the coins aren't moving, so flash is best not used for macro. Side lights and diffusion.
And, that's a great lens.

Re: Photos, Scopes, and Value
I saw that and now wondering if @SensibleSal66 's picture on my thread was put through a similar lighting enhancement...
@SensibleSal66, please say it didn't *smile
