The 1913 Buffalo Nickel, also known as the "Indian Head Nickel", is a cherished piece of U.S. coinage. (I like calling it "Buffalo Nickel".
Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the coin is recognized for its detailed depiction of a Native American on the obverse and an American bison (Buffalo) on the reverse.
The 1913 Buffalo Nickel is notable for two main varieties, Type 1 and Type 2, which refer to slight differences in the reverse design:
Type 1: Features the bison on a raised mound, with "FIVE CENTS" positioned beneath.
Type 2: Adjust this design by placing "FIVE CENTS" in a recessed area below the mound.
The Type 2 variety was introduced to improve the coin’s durability and prevent the denomination from wearing away quickly.

Awesome coin! It's hard to not like a Buffalo nickel. The Indian on this one looks like he's dozing off. Got his eyes almost closed

You got it MUMIN go for it! I believe no one will hold you back from doing so. Start right away. Some of the guys on here enjoy looking at other collector coins.
As for me, I end on December 31. New Year's Eve is my last display of coins (2024 Poster Edition).

@Earle, I think you are the only one who caught that or might have gone over the head on the others...

My Dad grew up in a culture where honesty, integrity, and people like Roy Rogers were the ultimate heroes. It rubbed off on me and I loved the Old West (still do). It was a glorious era of hardships and freedoms. Nowadays people have demonized our amazing history by focusing on the inevitable mistakes humankind makes no matter what time period is put under scrutiny. But I have also learned how egotistical it is to look at the past through the eyes of the present.
Maybe a new ousting of certain egotistical systems will be upon us now.
Maybe we can even get the mint to produce a truly patriotic set of American Heritage coins with well known American heroes. Wouldn't it be great to see Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill, Geronimo, Daniel Boone, Pocahontas, Davy Crocket, Pontiac, David Bowie, Sitting Bull etc., etc. quarters?

I would love to see the US Mint honor those who entertained the "Baby Boomers" (like myself) every Saturday morning when we were kids before we are gone.Earle42 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 10:23 pm@Earle, I think you are the only one who caught that or might have gone over the head on the others...

TV hosts like:
. . . . Sandy Becker - George Sanford “Sandy” Becker
. . . . Soupy Sales - Milton Supman
. . . . Buffalo Bob (The Howdy Doody Show) - Robert Smith
. . . . Captain Jack McCarthy (Popeye cartoons) - John Joseph McCarthy
. . . . Captain Kangaroo - Robert Keeshan
. . Or a tribute to the "Romper Room" show—This morning show was directed at preschoolers, and it opened with the hostess leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
. .There are so many others, especially this one that comes to mind right now as I write this, Bozo the Clown - Frank Avruch, but his position has already been taken by the 2024 Celia Cruz Quarter... bummer!
