2005 Bison Nickel Clash Die Error??

#1 Unread post by Lora »

I have this 2005 Nickel that looks as if it may be a clash die error. It looks like the bison fur transferred to the front of the Nickel. New to coin hunting and would love to hear what you think may have caused this.

I have several that are from the same roll that have this same strike or struck through grease on the front of the coins. They have never been in circulation, although they look like they have.

Our member Paul once shared something like this is called struck through goop. Goop is a metal slurry in grease.

It is not all that uncommon to find several coins in a row with a similar mark. As successive coins are struck the goop wears away/moves making the marks on the coins similar and smaller until they are gone.

Gee, he hasn't been here since October. I hope he's alright. :(
