OGP 2021 Silver Proof set missing Lincoln Cent

#1 Unread post by Paul52 »

HI Daniel: I just ordered this through the US Mint "Vault Sale". When I unboxed then opened the Proof Set pack imagine my surprise as I realized the Lincoln Cent was missing! Hopefully I made a good choice to keep this set. What do you think?

Can you open it without breaking it? If so, then you don't have a packaging error, you just have a missing coin. If it's sealed then you can prove it's a legit packing error

Welcome to the forum. We are glad you are here :D

Hmmm...I agree in that I have no idea what people might think. it is a novelty item, but I am not aware of a market for error proof sets.

Of course you could always break it open, submit the missing penny for grading and get a top pop b/c I am sure no others have been graded yet:

DISCLAIMER...that was a joke and not being serious! It seems nowadays everyone wants to slab everything they find. So when saw your missing penny this came to my mind and I could not stop chuckling to myself at how the marketers would love to be able to do something like this!

Ironically, the reality of slabs is this is exactly what people are really buying...since nothing legitimate is used to grade coins, then the grade can change if the coin is broken out and sent in again to try for a higher grade So the opinion of the ink on the label is what they are buying...and it happens to be accompanied by an included coin

Another bit of irony is the companies actually will assign a "grade" to a blank planchet. So just exactly how do you determine the wear on the design when there is no design to assess?
