2021 Australia Perth Mint 1 oz Silver Dragon Bar Error

#1 Unread post by gmckearin »

I sent this email to the Perth Mint but they have not responded.
I have five 2021 Silver Dragons that have a "Scar" over the eye of the queen. These 5 coins are from a purchase of 15 coins made through Amazon.
I am not looking to return them. I am just inquiring, I would like to know if this was an error type coin (variety) that came from The Perth Mint. As such, I assume they would have a greater numismatic value. I have attached photos of 2 different coins. I could send you photos of the other 3 coins if you request them.
Thanks
Gary McKearin

Your images can't be enlarged, but we don't attribute varieties and using images we can't really tell you what is going on. You might try someone in person, go to CONECA and see if anyone is interested in examine your coin in hand.
You might even send Paul here a PM.

I assume they would have a greater numismatic value.
Unfortunately this is not always the case. Some errors are common and therefore do no command a premium. Please note I am not making that statement about the coins you posted, just helping with some understanding.

As has been said, we cannot see the details close enough to tell what is going on.

Best GUESS:
Do not take this as gospel, but a POSSIBILITY of what you are seeing may be a minor die crack. If the metal is raised in this are, then the die was cracked, and the metal therefore was pushed up into that void when the coin was struck.

Die cracks are one of the most common types of errors and typically won't bring a premium unless very large. Search for "coin die crack" online .

Again this is only a guess guess based on the little I can (maybe!) see.
Common grading company shortcomings & resulting co$tly mi$take$ to collectors (using Kennedy No FG halves):
