I agree this should be submitted, it has potential and I have some FH up on my site with less head details. Images could be better but I can see enough here.

full head indeed. I am not sure if anyone would agree with me, so don't actually do it, but I would personally water/acetone/MS70 on this coin, as it seems to have some superficial dirt on it. I want to here everyone else's opinion on this as well
based on what I am seeing as is, I am thinking in the low-mid MS rage for this coin

Monsterbug1.
Thanks for your comment and advise. Would this process of using acetone / water possibly jeapordize the coin in receiving an MS grade and the coin being returned as a " details cleaning "...

Hey Phil, now that is a photo. If you use Acetone, Do Not Rub, dab. This is something that Daniel has repeated time after time. If you rub, you will disturb the surface finish, and this rubbing can even remove some of the alloy from the surface, then with that on the swab, you WILL get scratches. Oh yeah, great coin by the way, and worth grading. Here is something else, I have a Python built spreadsheet/chart and in general the moving average is showing a definite upward bias for PCGS coins, I have no idea why, only that it is.

Thanks again for your advice, and coming back a 2nd time....Let me make sure that I understand what you are suggesting me to do. Take acetone and apply with a cotton swab. Do I just let the coin dry with the acetone applied or do I rinse off with water ? Can this be done several times as needed without harming the coin? As you can tell I have never done this before ..
Thanks again !!! Happy New Year too !!

Former chemistry teacher here: Acetone cannot chemically or physically alter the metal. It can only dissolve a foreign substance form the surface. Therefore the professionals and the hobby do not call this "cleaning a coin." You have done nothing to the coin's metal itself, you have lifted a foreign substance from the surface - which is called conservation..

You can take a small jar (I use a baby food jar), put some acetone in the bottom - enough to cover the coin - and insert the coin. Let it sit for a minute or so and remove it. There is no need to rinse b/c the acetone cannot exist in liquid form at room temperature and so will totally evaporate from the surface. I put the cover on the jar just b/c acetone evaporates quickly, but putting enough in to begin with 1/4'" will not evaporate within a minute.

Repeat as many times as you like.

Acetone must be labeled as "Pure Acetone." Inexpensive and sold in the health a beauty dept. at Walmart b/c its sold as a fingernail polish remover. Fingernail polish has perfumes and colorants added to it, but pure acetone will not.

I suggest a dip like this b/c there is a small possibility of rubbing the coin when using a Q-tip. I have done the above with hundreds of coins over the last 11 years with absolutely nothing showing up from having used acetone.

I just looked back at the pics and am not sure what you are seeing that might benefit the coin from using acetone? But...you have it in hand which means you see things the pics do not show.

Hi Earle
The coin has some dark spots especially on reverse. Hoping it will remove them. Not sure if dirt or toning. Hopefully it will remove both.
Thanks again for your post.
Happy New Year!!

This is an old thread. The last post before yours was December of 2021 by the OP.
