Series of 1914 White Mellon Minneapolis Five Dollar Federal Reserve Note

#1 Unread post by Artillery87 »

I am starting to gain some knowledge in the world of coins but have no experience at all when it comes to paper money. I just picked this up and tried doing some research on it but all I could find is that Minneapolis notes are rarer this year than others especially with the signatures of White and Mellon. (Please correct me if I do not know what Im talking about) It seems to be pretty crisp but has a fold crease in the center among some others which arent as bad. I have no idea what the condition it is in since I know nothing about paper money. Is it worth $140, or did I overpay?

Sorry I do not know enough about bills to say for sure. But you would need to find a list of what to look for when grading bills and then find sold items of same type online to make a good assessment of value. To me that bill looks likes its in pretty nice condition.
Hello. I think a little bit over paid,
Can you share where you get grading guidelines and get values? Much appreciated. :)

The note will grade EF and looking up ebay SOLD listings will help you determine the going rate for ungraded notes like this. "Rare" doesn't imply greater value, there's a lot of rare coins and currency that are not worth more because there's not enough demand to increase their value.
