Is this a "satin finish"? 1C-2010-?

#1 Unread post by musospuso »

I have never actually seen in person or held one so I'm just not sure. I found this while bank roll searching and it stopped me in my tracks--was it dipped or coated or something? It felt smooth but didn't look like a proof. Is this what is called "satin finish"? Or something else? Beat to heck unfortunately, it looks kinda neat otherwise...

It's definitely damaged. But there is also some definite tampering of some kind. It is way too smooth and the color (which may not come across in the photos well enough) is way off. Like a bad sun tan. Bronze nail polish or something. Looks cool actually but definitely not straight from the mint or if it is, there's something else going on. It's almost smokey bronze. Maybe a proof that's been damaged or dunked in something?

a proof cent in 2010 would have a S mint mark, so this is not a proof cent. zincolns do weird things when exposed to the elements.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm keepin' it for no other reason that it feels and looks pretty cool. The photos don't do it justice. I'm still working on a better photography setup. Trying to get that fancy axial lighting thingamabobber going.

It's just a damaged coin.
