I believe I found 2014 Shield Cent DDO-001

#1 Unread post by claudewill1 »

I believe I found the DDO-01 or FS-101, due to vision issues and not being able to get good enough lighting, and losing the thing I used to have that made identifying certain things easier I cannot easily Identify the other markers. however, The only one of the three DDOs that the date on this comes close to is the FS-101. It may be an LDS which is why it might be more difficult to see certain things. I do see something on the upper left shield. I have found enough real DDOs/DDRs to know this is a DDO. I looked through CopperCoins.com and VareityVista.com, and the CherryPickers Guide, and the date and last part of liberty match to that and not the other two.

Any input would be appreciated.

In the pics provided, I can see what may be the thickness of a DDO date, but the rest of the pics are just too hard to tell much from them.

Yeah, I will try to get higher quality photos, the thing I had used in the past I lost, and I can't currently acquire another.

Hi,
I was able to get images of the date and liberty that are clearer so far, the usb scope thing I have doesn't work as well as this attachment I use to have for my phone for taking certain photos which I lost. I've tried looking, but I cannot seem to find any more official photos which would show all of the markets in a late die stage. On the reverse part of the coin on the upper left shield were the crack was in the MDS, it looks like there was a die break there at the stage my coin is in at the stage of the die it was struck:

Since you are having a problem, you could try the following method - You probably can get better pictures b/c it forces the camera to do all the work for you:

That would probably work. I have a lot of difficulties keeping my hands steady and have a lot of tremors. I will try again in a bit.

Thank you for the suggestion.

In general, I believe finding a DDO on a shield cent even if it's not the 01, will be helpful altogether, I have an example in hand I can look at in the future if I find anything to compare against. I find finding and then having an example in hand is always helpful.

I have a few more useful photos, I strongly believe it is the DDO-001. doubledie.com, coppercoins.com, and varietyvista.com do not help much in this instance. They all show a coin in MDS, my coin is in a LDS. The only one of the 3 listed on varietyvista that has a date that even closely resembles my coins is the DDO-001. I've spent enough time studying photos and have somewhat more of a photographic memory. (which is why I would do better on a multiple-choice test than a short answer test)

The main thing I am using as an identifier is the date. It only really matches up to the DDO-001, and not to the DDO-002, or 003.

In the DDO-002, There doesn't really seem to be much of any doubling on the 0, on the DDO-003, the doubling is more to the east. For mine (and the DDO-001) The zero seems to be doubled more down to the south southeast. Overall I'm happy to have just found my second doubled die coin within about a month.
