Hi. I'm Meki.
Because I always get asked I'll go ahead and answer: Yep! not a nick name, it's real full name, parents were hippies and wanted a boy named Mike and when I surprised them they weren't prepared with a name for a girl and so they decided to just switch up the letters and voila my name was typed out... and it's pronounced meee key kinda like Mikey but with a very long "e"
So nice to meetcha.
I'm a hopeful newbie nuismatic,. My grandfather was an amazing one but kind of closeted. He didn't share his passion until he passed on and it was given to me, surprisingly. I didn't pay much attention to the collection until it got stolen and I was advised that by the notes it had been worth quite some money and there would be no way to track it. The quite some money idea piqued my interest and made me start looking at pennies, from those from change or bank rolls to those on the ground... And I have to be honest the more I looked the more I found all over the ground, which made me freak out that people just tossed pennies on the ground carelessly not even realizing one of those copper pieces could be worth what their car cost or that they didn't care that they were damaging actual money... As if it had no value.
I realized I was kinda getting into the treasure hunt and it absolutely made me laugh one day, when I refused to give a cashier some pennies I pulled out, with some dollar bills, of my pocket. These were pennies that I had picked up, put in my pocket, but hadn't looked at yet. The cashier had asked if I had pennies so I could pay them 4 cents... so they could give me a dollar bill back instead of 96 cents in change. I probably sounded really weird to them as I said, "oh shoot I can't spend those yet, I haven't looked at them, just go ahead and give me the change back, I don't mind. No really I don't mind, I like change.'
I was handed 96 cents back with a cocked eyebrow and one of those she's either crazy or on drugs looks.
I guess I'll eventually get good at identifying errors as I learn more. Until then I hope you guys can tolerate my stupid questions. However, most of the time I take pretty good images so if necessary they can be used to explain things to people if they fit the bill.
So thanks for putting up with me and all of the other newbies that still have in their eyes and hopes for the big find...
Meki
