Please note the information I put in your first post in this thread. I had to change the title for you to comply with posting guidelines. Please review the posting guidelines on how to make titles etc.

Here is a helpful graphic about Roller Lines vs. a Woody:
Roller_Lines_VS_Woodgrain_Cent_2.jpg
Roller lines are parallel and pretty much the same size. A Woody is an improper alloy mix where the lines are not necessarily uniform in size, and do not have to be perfectly parallel. Look in the graphic and see how the Woody has more "splotchy" lines/shapes making up the "wood grain," whereas the roller lines are uniform and parallel with each other.

Also, since this is post 48 for you, please take the time to look at this link and see how to make photos that are easy to see and close cropped. Just take the link and look at the cheap setup using a phone. :D

Thanks Everyone! So does a woody need the discoloration on both sides?

As the graphic and explanation shows, it is the shape and position of the lines on the coin that show it is a woody vs. roller lines.

As to it being on both sides, let's reason through this.

An improper alloy mix means the metal, when melted, did not thoroughly blend to make one smooth color and appearance.
When that metal is rolled out into thin sheets, it still will show the areas of improper alloy mixture in a random pattern. There will be no distinct uniform pattern to it. That includes not only the face of the metal strip, but also the metal strips thickness.

There is no way to predict whether or not the random mixture of metals will be thick enough to show on both side of the coin or not. While likely, I would theorize its not an absolute.
